Elise Stefanik is an American politician. A Republican, she has been a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York, since January 3, 2015, and Chair of the House Republican Conference, since May 14, 2021.

She is the daughter of Melanie and Kenneth Stefanik, who own wholesale plywood distributor Premium Plywood Products. Elise is maried to marketing and communications professional Matthew Manda, with whom she has one child.

Her father is described on the internet as being of Czech descent. This does not appear to be accurate. All four of Elise’s paternal great-grandparents were Polish immigrants.

Elise’s paternal grandfather was Stanley S. Stefanik (the son of Stephan A. Stefanik and Veronica/Veronika Potyrala). Stanley was born in Massachusetts, to Polish parents. Stephan was born in Frysztak, the son of Mikolaj Stefanik and Veronika Zolnierz. Elise’s great-grandmother Veronika was the daughter of Jan Potyrala and Katarzyna Oszajca.

Elise’s paternal grandmother was Cecelia Anna “Ceil” Andrzejewski (the daughter of Anthony Andrzejewski and Marcella Sczolk). Cecelia was born in Amsterdam, New York, to Polish parents. Anthony was the son of John Andrzejewski and Mary Cajkoska.
