Chubby Checker is an American singer and dancer. He popularized several dance styles, including: with his cover of the song “The Twist,” and his “Let’s Twist Again,” the dance of the same time; with his cover of “Pony Time,” the pony dance; with his cover of “Limbo Rock,” his trademark Limbo dance; and The Fly.
Chubby is the son of Eartle and Raymond Evans. He was raised in South Philadelphia, in the projects. He formed a street-corner harmony group at around age eleven.
Chubby is married to Dutch model Catharina Lodders. He has four children: three, including musician Shan Egan (Evans), lead singer of Philadelphia-area band Funk Church, with Catharina; and a daughter, professional basketball player Mistie Bass.
