It “Nucci” a popular Italian Jewish surname? If not, I’d assume his father is ethnically Italian.
Not Jewish at all to me.
That’s what I figured. Italian should probably be added, then, and then sourcing added for everything.
And now someone has changed it just to say Shepardi Jewish without any documentation.
His father was born in Morocco, had Dahan in his name, re-married to another Moroccan Jewish woman, and is buried in a cemetery for Moroccan Jews. It looks like an article in Le Monde in 2003 refers to him as a Moroccan Jew, as well, independently of any mention of his son. I’m not sure he had any connection to Italy. Was there an Italian community in Fez, Morocco in the 1930s? Most likely Nucci was changed from something like Nouchi.
Can you add that Le Monde article and/or cemetery record as a citation?
Good find, follers.
Another case of fake Italian then.
There are plenty of French Jews (from North Africa) with Dahan surname indeed.
