Pat Robertson was an American Southern Baptist minister, religious broadcaster, political commentator, politician, media mogul, and author. He was the founder of Regent University, a private Christian university, of which he was chancellor and CEO; the Christian Broadcasting Network, of which he was chairman; advocacy group the Christian Coalition of America; humanitarian organization Operation Blessing International; television channel International Family Entertainment, Inc., later ABC Family/Freeform; legal organization American Center for Law & Justice; and the Founders Inn and Conference Center. He was the host of the show The 700 Club from 1961 to 2021. He was associated with the charismatic movement of Protestant evangelism.

He was a candidate for the Republican Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 1988.

Pat was the son of Gladys Churchill (Willis) and Absalom Willis Robertson, a Democratic Party politician, who was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Virginia, from March 4, 1933 to November 5, 1946, and a U.S. Senator from Virginia, from November 6, 1946 to December 30, 1966. He was married to nurse, author, and evangelist Adelia/Dede Elmer, until her death, with whom he had four children, including Gordon P. Robertson, who hosts The 700 Club, and is President of the Christian Broadcasting Network and Operation Blessing International.

Pat’s paternal grandfather was Franklin Pierce Robertson (the son of Archelaus/Archie Jonathan Robertson and Annis Jane Woodson). Franklin was born in Virginia. Archelaus/Archie was the son of Cosby Minor Robertson and Susan Browning.

Pat’s paternal grandmother was Josephine Ragland Willis (the daughter of Absalom Graves Willis and Sarah Lee Gordon). Josephine was born in Virginia. Absalom was the son of Larkin Willis and Mary Churchill Gordon. Sarah was the daughter of John Harrison Gordon and Harriet Eustace Gaskins.
