NBC's "The Voice" Season 6 Live Shows Top 5

Birth Name: Usher Raymond IV

Place of Birth: Dallas, Texas, U.S.

Date of Birth: October 14, 1978

Ethnicity: African-American

Usher is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor. He is the son of Jonetta Patton (O’Neal) and Usher Raymond III. He is married to manager Grace Miguel. He has two children with his former wife, stylist Tameka Foster.

Usher’s paternal grandfather is Usher Raymond, Jr. (the son of Usher Raymond and Emma Martin).

Usher’s paternal grandmother is Evangelist Ernestine Berry (the daughter of Milton A. Berry and Etta Ruth Russ). Milton was the son of Charlie Edward Berry and Viola. Etta was the daughter of William/Will Russ and Luvenia Williams.

Some web sites state that Usher’s father had Haitian ancestry. This does not appear to be accurate.

His parents are Jonetta Patton (O’Neal) and Usher Terry Raymond III.

“His mother is of African-American heritage while his father claims both African-American and Haitian heritage. Although his father left the family when Usher was very young, he identifies with both his mother’s African-American heritage and his father’s Haitian-creole heritage.”

I think the Haitian thing is fiction. Has Usher ever said so himself?

fuzzybear44 January 19, 2016 at 2:31 am

True enough, I haven’t heard him say it either. However Haitians have been mixing up in African American bloodlines for centuries now. Just putting that in there

It may be fiction. I cannot find any sources that seem legitimate. His father died in 2008 and that is where his Haitian ancestry allegedly comes from. Here’s his obituary: http://www.chattanoogan.com/2008/1/19/120383/Raymond-Usher-Urkie-III.aspx

He’s got Jewish/Semitic eyes.

fuzzybear44 October 8, 2015 at 9:44 pm

I ‘ve never heard of the Jewish eyes.

Capricious October 8, 2015 at 10:15 pm

His eyes are very unique for an black African. The way they’re pebble shaped, small and sloped to the side. A lot of Jews and Assyrians have these kind of eyes.

@Capricious

I really don’t see anything unique about his eyes. To me dinka people have similar eyes, and there millions of them, as well as many other groups. Plus from what I’ve read, most Africans if not all have Eurasian ancestry

there is a big gap between african american and africans (mostly)

african americans can have european ancestry

but africans who were brought as slaves on a worse way did not. they came from areas, where european admixture was not there

therefore i think usher could easily fit in africa while tyra banks cannot

neiltennant July 2, 2015 at 1:57 am

hmm im not sure but when he was younger
