Rory McIlroy is a Northern Irish professional golfer. He was world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking for 95 weeks, and is a member of the European Tour and the PGA Tour. He is an Ambassador for UNICEF Ireland.

Rory is the son of Rosie (McDonald) and Gerry McIlroy. He is married to PGA of America employee, Erica Stoll, with whom he has a daughter.

McIlroy was raised Catholic. He carries a British passport. He has described himself as Irish, Northern Irish, and British. He has stated:

I feel Northern Irish and obviously being from Northern Ireland you have a connection to Ireland and a connection to the UK… If I could and there was a Northern Irish team I’d play for Northern Ireland.

Rory’s paternal grandfather was named Jimmy McIlroy. Jimmy was from Belfast, Ulster, Northern Ireland.
