The Rev was an American musician and songwriter. He was a founding member of heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold, for which he played drums and piano, and provided backing and co-lead vocals. He was also lead vocalist, and pianist, for avant-garde metal band Pinkly Smooth, and drummer for ska punk band Suburban Legends. Other members of Avenged Sevenfold also include/have included Johnny Christ, Synyster Gates, Arin Ilejay, The Rev, M. Shadows, and Zacky Vengeance. He was also known as Jimmy and Rathead. “The Rev” was short for The Reverend Tholomew Plague.

He was the son of Barbara and Joseph Sullivan.

The Rev’s paternal grandfather was Eugene Thomas Sullivan (the son of Jerry Thomas Sullivan and Winifred Ann Murphy). Eugene was born in California, to Irish parents. Jerry was the son of Daniel “Dan” Sullivan and Norah Leary. Winifred was the daughter of Thomas Murphy and Bridget Cunnant.

The Rev’s paternal grandmother was Patricia Marie Hawkins (the daughter of Edward Royal Hawkins and Agnes Cecilia LeQuime). Patricia was born in Idaho. Edward was the son of Charles Agustus Hawkins and Ella Garvey. Agnes was adopted by Leon LeQuime and Delphine Mary Chrétien, who were French-Canadian.

The Rev’s maternal grandfather was surnamed Pickering.
