She is the daughter of Rosemary Elikalani (Frederick) Scherzinger and Alfonso A[lueta] Valiente, Jr. Her father is Filipino, from the Batanes Islands in the Philippines. Her mother has Native Hawaiian, Ukrainian, and Polish, ancestry. Her mother was a professional hula dancer. Nicole’s surname comes from her stepfather, Gary Scherzinger, who has German ancestry. She was raised partly in Louisville, Kentucky.

Nicole’s paternal grandfather was Alfonso Arca Valiente (the son of Salvador Valiente y Batiforra, or Salvador Batiforra Valiente in Filipino, and of Adriana Arca e Idel, or Adriana Idel Arca in Filipino). Nicole’s grandfather Alfonso was born in Kauai County, Hawaii, to Filipino parents, the former from Basco, Batanes. Salvador was the son of Gaspar Valiente and Martina Batiforra. Adriana was the daughter of Domingo Arca and Máxima Idel.

Nicole’s paternal grandmother was Joaquina “Jojo” Alueta y Ferido (or Joaquina Ferido Alueta in Filipino, the daughter of Juan Alueta y Amarante, or Juan Amarante Alueta in Filipino, and of Aniceta Ferido y Figura, or Aniceta Figura Ferido in Filipino). Joaquina was a Filipino emigrant, from Manila. Juan was the son of Francisco Alueta and María Amarante. Aniceta was the daughter of Mateo Ferido and Raymunda Figura.

Nicole’s maternal grandfather is John Irvin Frederick (the son of William F. Frederick and Stella Bolka). John was born in New York. William was born in Pennsylvania, the son of Polish parents, William Frederick/Fredrick and Frances Vencowski/Viencoski/Vinskowski. Stella was born in Pennsylvania, to ethnic Ukrainian parents from Ulucz, Poland, Michael Bolka and Catherine/Kathryn.

Nicole’s maternal grandmother is Katherine P. Lenchanko, now Katherine Frederick (the daughter of John Ivan Lenchanko, Sr. and Angeline Kawailani Kea). Katherine was born in Hawaii. John was the son of Nikita Demidovich/Dimidovich Lenichenko/Lenitchenko/Lesnichenko and Praskovia/Paraskovia Kuzminichna/Kuzminisha Zenchenko. They were ethnic Ukrainian emigrants, who were Russian Orthodox Christians from the Kiev region, a village called Berezno. Nikita was one of 165 Russian and Ukrainian immigrants in Hawaii who wished to return to his native country, and sent an application for that. Pictures of, and information about, Nicole’s maternal great-grandfather John, and his family, can be seen here and here (Nicole’s great-grandfather is at the center of the picture at the second link, leaning on his father).

Nicole’s great-grandmother Angeline was the daughter of John Louis Kea/Mano and Margaret Dionicia/Dionisia Namakaokalani “Maggie” Iopa, and was of Native Hawaiian background.

Tiarny, what island are you from? Also, can you tell me if there’s a difference between Polynesian & Micronesian…? My ex-coworker said we aren’t Polynesian, but some things online classify us as being Polynesian, Malaysian, etc…it’s confusing how we’re classified by OTHERS, that’s why I just say (Pacific) islander. I am mixed, but I represent how I was raised. I don’t know much about the other stuff. =/

I have an aunt (my mom’s older sister) who can pass for African American because of her hair, color & features, and I know people on the mainland think she IS black. I have a (first) cousin on my mom’s side, who people (who don’t know much about islanders) think is half black & Korean or some other Asian ethnicity.

well from what iv’e heard and learned, the difference between Micronesians and Polynesians,is that Polynesians have at least more than one island of their country, that’s why i think that’s where the name “poly” came from, cuz it means “many”,because of all the pacific islands classified as a part of the Polynesian family, have many islands.Like for example the Hawaiian islands, Samoa, Tahiti,etc.. So if your Micronesian, that’s cool, because the Polynesians, the Melanesians and the Micronesians,we are all apart of the Pacific/Nesian families. Pacific/Nesian islanders Represent! :)

TO THE PPL WHO NEED 2B EDUCATED ABOUT POLYNESIANS….

POLYNESIANS are NOT white balck and asian u IDIOTS!!! We come from the Pacific Islands … We are our own race of ppl jst like any other race …

Polynesia is a subregion of Oceania, comprising a large grouping of over 1,000 islands scattered over the central and southern Pacific Ocean. The indigenous people who inhabit the islands of Polynesia are termed Polynesians and they share many similar traits including language, culture and beliefs.

The term “Polynesia” was first used by Charles de Brosses, a French writer, in 1756, and originally applied to all the islands of the Pacific. In 1831, Jules Dumont d’Urville proposed a restriction on its use during a lecture to the Geographical Society of Paris.

    HOPE YOU LEARN SOMETHING :)

    • John Popovich says:

No the first people of the Philippines were black ( search Ati people), not Polynesian. Similar looking to Papuans or Australian Aboriginals…same goes for thailand, Singapore- almost every country in south east asia…the Chinese came down and slaughtered the natives to the extent to extinction of many original natives..GENOCIDE 101
      HOPE YOU LEARNED SOMETHING :)

      • Sillau says:

what are you talking about, tiarny was talking about pacific/polynesian people, not filipinos.

      • Angantyr says:

That is just a nonsense theory. The Ati people do not seem to have been black ever. Though Negrito people have some similarities with Africans, they are genetically the most distant people from Africans, so that blows that theory out of the water.

And why would the Chinese have come down and killed them all? The Chinese didn’t settle in Thailand or every country in South Asia. South Asians are not closely related to the Chinese for the most part, apart from some Sino-Tibetan groups. Singapore is mostly Chinese (followed by Indian) but only because of trading bases being set up there in recent centuries.
