She has also been credited as Nicole Kea.

She is the daughter of Rosemary Elikalani (Frederick) Scherzinger and Alfonso A[lueta] Valiente, Jr. Her father is Filipino, from the Batanes Islands in the Philippines. Her mother has Native Hawaiian, Ukrainian, and Polish, ancestry. Her mother was a professional hula dancer. Nicole’s surname comes from her stepfather, Gary Scherzinger, who has German ancestry. She was raised partly in Louisville, Kentucky.

Nicole’s paternal grandfather was Alfonso Arca Valiente (the son of Salvador Valiente y Batiforra, or Salvador Batiforra Valiente in Filipino, and of Adriana Arca e Idel, or Adriana Idel Arca in Filipino). Nicole’s grandfather Alfonso was born in Kauai County, Hawaii, to Filipino parents, the former from Basco, Batanes. Salvador was the son of Gaspar Valiente and Martina Batiforra. Adriana was the daughter of Domingo Arca and Máxima Idel.

Nicole’s paternal grandmother was Joaquina “Jojo” Alueta y Ferido (or Joaquina Ferido Alueta in Filipino, the daughter of Juan Alueta y Amarante, or Juan Amarante Alueta in Filipino, and of Aniceta Ferido y Figura, or Aniceta Figura Ferido in Filipino). Joaquina was a Filipino emigrant, from Manila. Juan was the son of Francisco Alueta and María Amarante. Aniceta was the daughter of Mateo Ferido and Raymunda Figura.

Nicole’s maternal grandfather is John Irvin Frederick (the son of William F. Frederick and Stella Bolka). John was born in New York. William was born in Pennsylvania, the son of Polish parents, William Frederick/Fredrick and Frances Vencowski/Viencoski/Vinskowski. Stella was born in Pennsylvania, to ethnic Ukrainian parents from Ulucz, Poland, Michael Bolka and Catherine/Kathryn.

Nicole’s maternal grandmother is Katherine P. Lenchanko, now Katherine Frederick (the daughter of John Ivan Lenchanko, Sr. and Angeline Kawailani Kea). Katherine was born in Hawaii. John was the son of Nikita Demidovich/Dimidovich Lenichenko/Lenitchenko/Lesnichenko and Praskovia/Paraskovia Kuzminichna/Kuzminisha Zenchenko. They were ethnic Ukrainian emigrants, who were Russian Orthodox Christians from the Kiev region, a village called Berezno. Nikita was one of 165 Russian and Ukrainian immigrants in Hawaii who wished to return to his native country, and sent an application for that. Pictures of, and information about, Nicole’s maternal great-grandfather John, and his family, can be seen here and here (Nicole’s great-grandfather is at the center of the picture at the second link, leaning on his father).

Nicole’s great-grandmother Angeline was the daughter of John Louis Kea/Mano and Margaret Dionicia/Dionisia Namakaokalani “Maggie” Iopa, and was of Native Hawaiian background.

My dad told me lots of filipinos are part negrito but they are ashame of it and he also told me polynesians are of black white and asian ancestry look at samoans that is an example my best friend who is polynesian has brown skin and very kinky afro and lots people think he is black.I saw a show and a polynesian women said that the original polynesians were tall black people. I am multiracial i am filipino , polynesian and mixed with allot of stough …………………..

I know so many people of asian descent who would never admit to having black blood, it’s a tabu thing to discuss, but truth is many hide it, sadly. Why hide what u are?

i kind of disagree with some stuff.

Pacific islanders/Polynesians are not African/black.Has anyone ever thought about where the Pacific/Polynesian islands are located, there located close by the equator where its hot,so thats probably the reason for their beautiful brown skin.Africans are not the only people that can be dark, just cuz someone is dark, does not mean they have African in them,Africans are not the only one under the hot sun.And Pacific/Polynesians can have a range of hair, going from thick curly, wavy,to straight,to basically all kinds, but typically thick, long wavy hair, not kinky. And if you actually compare & see Africans & Pacific/Polynesians,than you can actually the difference, difference in features, cultures, languages, hair,& everything else, but the mainly similar thing,is that there both people of color & beautiful on there own,but not related.

      • Tracy says:

Actually most Asians are part African. Africans migrated from Africa called Negritos a long long time ago and Negritos are the aboriginal population of every Asian country, just google Negritos and every Asian country from Thailand to India will come up.

      • Tracy says:

Polynesian hair is kinky, their lips and noses are large exactly like Africans. We are all related to Africans. The entire world is connected to Africa.

        • Sillau says:

sorry but,my cousin, who is samoan(im part samoan aswell)does not have kinky hair,or hairs like africans, they have thick, long hair, ranging from straight, curly & wavy,so you cant say nothin, cuz i know about my culture & people more than you,I was raised samoan & lived with my samoan family,& they all usually have long thick wavy hair,so shut your lying mouth.

  3. over9000 says:

when i was little i thought she was black…. now when i look at her she doesn’t look like she has any black in her at all lol… i guess i thought that cause she has really dark skin.

    • Sillau says:

yeah, cuz she doesnt look black, not at all, shes mixed but not mixed with black,& polynesians are not black, just cuz shes like brown.black people are not the only people that can be dark,if someones dark,it doesnt always mean there black or have black.i mean look at indians, pacific islanders etc..

    • Tracy says:

She has played black tv characters and blended in

  4. Chorva says:

You’re probably talking about the Aetas who resembles Papuans & Aborigines. In fact the Aetas were not killed by the Chinese. They were just pushed to the mountains by the Malay & Indones who eventually were mixed with Spanish/Europeans and Chinese traders.

Filipinos are Asians but can also be considers as Hispanics and Pacific Islanders.
