Her mother has Native Hawaiian, Ukrainian, and Polish, ancestry. Her mother was a professional hula dancer. Nicole’s surname comes from her stepfather, Gary Scherzinger, who has German ancestry. She was raised partly in Louisville, Kentucky.

Nicole’s paternal grandfather was Alfonso Arca Valiente (the son of Salvador Valiente y Batiforra, or Salvador Batiforra Valiente in Filipino, and of Adriana Arca e Idel, or Adriana Idel Arca in Filipino). Nicole’s grandfather Alfonso was born in Kauai County, Hawaii, to Filipino parents, the former from Basco, Batanes. Salvador was the son of Gaspar Valiente and Martina Batiforra. Adriana was the daughter of Domingo Arca and Máxima Idel.

Nicole’s paternal grandmother was Joaquina “Jojo” Alueta y Ferido (or Joaquina Ferido Alueta in Filipino, the daughter of Juan Alueta y Amarante, or Juan Amarante Alueta in Filipino, and of Aniceta Ferido y Figura, or Aniceta Figura Ferido in Filipino). They were ethnic Ukrainian emigrants, who were Russian Orthodox Christians from the Kiev region, a village called Berezno. Nikita was one of 165 Russian and Ukrainian immigrants in Hawaii who wished to return to his native country, and sent an application for that. Pictures of, and information about, Nicole’s maternal great-grandfather John, and his family, can be seen here and here (Nicole’s great-grandfather is at the center of the picture at the second link, leaning on his father).

Nicole’s great-grandmother Angeline was the daughter of John Louis Kea/Mano and Margaret Dionicia/Dionisia Namakaokalani “Maggie” Iopa, and was of Native Hawaiian background.

Cheer up, being black, dark skinned, kinky hair, curly hair african is pretty cool. And FYI Negro is spanish for black, and keep in mind just because you read it in a book does not make it true, just like the dumbass comments I just read. Learn to love what you see in the mirror, and forget the labels.

I am a full blooded Samoan and PROUD. I do not have “afro” kinky hair and neither does any of my family members or many other Samoan women and men I know or seen. As a Polynesian woman I want to set the record straight. Polynesians are Polynesians, we are NOT and NEVER have been “part negrito”. We are and always will be Polynesian.

    • fghijk says:

The Negrito are a class of several ethnic groups that inhabit isolated parts of Southeast Asia.[1]

seriously, do your damn homework. Negro, not negrito.

      • Abcde says:

This was in response to ena she said “negrito” whatever that is. Is your name ena? NO didn’t think so. So do yourself a favor and MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

        • Amber Berg says:

polynesians are different than negritos, polynesians look like they can be mixed with negrito blood, but they are not through dna testing, negritos are also known as melanisians, they were the first people living in alot of the pacific islands, south east asia and may be related to aboriginals, the original melanisians (negritos) look just like africans-very dark skin and tightly curled hair, however they are not related to africans at all -their closet relatives are south east asians through dna test- your samoan and you dont know what a negrito is? You need to get into some history books! Try looking up melanisian!

          • Abcde says:

I used to live in Hawaii and Samoa and every REAL Melanesian (THAT IS HOW IT IS SPELLED CORRECTLY) I’ve met and seen were not all dark skinned and had kinky curly hair! They have different shades of brown and different hair textures. And lastly give me the names of the history books were you found this in.

          • Amber Berg says:

Look up images for original melanesian people! Not ones you see today because most you see today have been mixed. Also I was watching something on the discovery channel, they are the ones that created surfing and bunji jumping, now those that I seen are still really black they are from islands off of Hawaii. I think it might actually be on youtube. type it in on youtube!

Negritos share some common physical features with African pygmy populations, including short stature, natural afro-hair texture, and dark skin; however, their origin and the route of their migration to Asia is still a matter of great speculation. They are the most genetically distant human population from Africans at most loci studied thus far (except for MC1R, which codes for dark skin).

They have also been shown to have separated early from Asians, suggesting that they are either surviving descendants of settlers from an early migration out of Africa, commonly referred to as the Proto-Australoids, or that they are descendants of one of the founder populations of modern humans.[2]

          • t charles says:

The negritos have shown to be an early wave of bloodlines out of Africa. So are the bloodlines of the Aboriginals is said to also be and early wave from Africa. The DNA doesn’t have the same profile as todays Africans but there are markers that show the wave of people who inhabited SE Asia from early waves of migrants from east Africa.

Dna testing is constantly being updated. the data bases are being added too almost daily.

          • Andrezza says:

to me she is black, because of their skin tone and your nose, excuse me, but I can not believe it to be exotic just because of his straight hair

          • Tracy says:

It’s impossible to look African and not be related to African. Everyone on earth is related to Africans.

    • sillau says:

thats cool,im samoan too,but like about 75% and the other european, and i get irritated too when people keep on putting samoans/polynesians on this category(asian or native american) or on this category(black or hispanic) etc.,when we are now are on are own category, which is pacific polynesians.

    • Jeri says:

What about the Pacific island that are considered Micronesian or Melanisan. Many of them do look black and they have kinky hair and broad features. I don’t know about the Samoans but I have seen some people from the Pacific island that do look black.

      • pinky says:

True many pacific islanders look like black people physically. The ones who do are called Melanesians. They live in various areas in the Pacific Ocean. The Solomon Islands,The Marshall Islands,Papua New Guinea, and a couple of other islands are where the Melanesian pacific islandners predominately live. From what i was told the melanesians originated from south eastern asia and australia areas 40,000-100,000 years ago.
According to anthropologists,Melanesians are not related to Africans even though they physically look alike.

        • Sillau says:

i agree, pacific islanders/polynesians are not african/black.has anyone even thought about where the pacific/polynesian islands are located, there located close by the equator,so thats probably the reason for their beautiful brown skin.africans are not the only people that can be dark, there not the only one under the hot sun.

  5. ena says:

My dad told me lots of filipinos are part negrito but they are ashame of it and he also told me polynesians are of black white and asian ancestry look at samoans that is an example my best friend who is polynesian has brown skin and very kinky afro and lots people think he is black.I saw a show and a polynesian women said that the original polynesians were tall black people. I am multiracial i am filipino , polynesian and mixed with allot of stough

    • sillau says:

its cool your part polynesian, but did you get your polynesian from your dad side, but samoans/polynesians are not black, there their own category which is pacific/polynesian.
