“Black Irish” is a term that makes me cringe. I find it extremely irritating. Anyway Niall’s hair is highly likely not nearly black but brown like the majority.

There is nothing cringe worthy about “Black Irish”. Irish people can have very dark brown and sometimes black hair, so the term is specified accurately.
Most Irish people find the term cringe worthy because it is a completely made up term. Why not use the term Black German or Black Polish? There is no specific group in Ireland called Black Irish. Imagine calling Kate Middleton “Black English”. It is a term that started in the US and only makes sense if it was used by people in a similar vein to Black Dutch. Americans actually think there is a specific group of people in Ireland called Black Irish. I’ve seen people online say my great great Grandma was Black Irish. Just a stupid term.
