    Only his paternal grandmother is Irish. The article I linked includes a tweet from his father where he refers to himself as “half Irish”.

    Other articles also use “grandparent” in singular.

      Yes, and fairly rare in Republic of Ireland. Biggest density is in Northern Ireland, outside Great Britain. But Kavanagh is very Irish.

        I’m not denying the Kavanagh is Irish, but I wonder how far back his Bellingham lines goes, there? It’s an unusual last name for him not to have any relatively recent English ancestry, I’d think.
