Frank Dillane is a British actor. His roles include television’s Fear the Walking Dead, The Girlfriend Experience, and The Essex Serpent, and the films Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince, Papadopoulos & Sons, In the Heart of the Sea, Astral, How to Build a Girl, and Viena and the Fantomes.

He is the son of actors Stephen Dillane and Naomi Wirthner, who is also a director. His father is of English, Irish, Scottish, Cornish, and remote Manx [Isle of Man], ancestry. His paternal six times great-grandfather was Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marquess and 2nd Earl Cornwallis, known as a general in the British Army during the American War for Independence. Frank’s mother is the daughter of a white father, with German ancestry, and of a black Jamaican mother. His uncle is actor Richard Dillane.

A picture of Frank’s maternal grandfather can be seen here. A picture of Frank’s maternal grandmother or great-grandmother can be seen here.

Frank’s paternal grandfather was named John B. Dillane. John was born in Australia, and had Irish ancestry.

Frank’s paternal grandmother was Bridget M. Curwen (the daughter of The Rev. Stanley Patricius Lamplugh Curwen and Lilian Frances Skinner). Bridget was born in Cockermouth, Cumberland, England, and descended from many upper-class ancestors, including Earls, Baronets, Marquesses, and Dukes, and the Ponsonby, Cavendish, Spencer, Fane, Bertie, Leveson-Gower, Pierrepoint, Stewart, Cornwallis, Gordon, and Maxwell families. The Rev. Stanley was a Protestant minister, and was the son of Alfred Francis Curwen and Beatricia Cervinia Hills. Lilian was the daughter of Major Charles Lancelot Andrewes/Andrews Skinner, whose father was from St. John’s, Forfar, Angus, Scotland; and of Lady Sara Kathleen Ponsonby. Frank’s great-great-grandmother Lady Sara was the daughter of The Rev. Walter William Brabazon Ponsonby, 7th Earl of Bessborough, and of Lady Louisa Susan Cornwallis Eliot; whose own father was Edward Granville Eliot, 3rd Earl of Saint Germans.

Frank’s maternal grandparents possibly were Michael J. Wirthner and Frances Petch-Clark. Frank’s grandfather likely descended from Alphonse Wirthner. Alphonse was an ethnic German from Russia.

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVD4-GCW9 Likely maternal grandparents? This Michael J Wirthner married in London to Frances Petch-Clarke. Michael John Wirthner travelled between the UK and Kingston, Jamaica in the 1950s. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:685Z-X7T7

According to the internet his mother was born in London in 1965. There’s also a marriage for Edmund J Marsh and Frances Wirthner but Edmund died in 1964 so he can’t be Naomi’s father? https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QV6M-M177

My guess: Michael J Wirthner and Frances Petch-Clark are his maternal grandparents. Michael’s parents were Cecil Richard P Wirthner and Dorothy Rose Ashbourn. Cecil was the son of Alphonse Wirthner and Lizzie Day.

Wirthners in UK descend from Alphonse Wirthner, who immigrated from Russia.
