Janet Ertel was an American singer. She was a member of The Chordettes, a female pop music quartet founded in 1946 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Other members of the group were, at various points, her sister Alice Mae Spielvogel, sister-in-law Carol Buschmann, as well as Lynn Evans, Margie Needham, Jinny Osborn, Nancy Overton, and Dorothy Schwartz.
Janet was the daughter of Alice Henrietta and Albert Robert Buschmann.
Janet’s paternal grandfather was Herman Buschmann (the son of Ernst Buschmann and Sophia Diehl). Herman was a German emigrant, from in Königreich.
Janet’s paternal grandmother was Auguste Fredericke Ernstine Lange (the daughter of August Lange and Wilhelmine “Minnie” Heiden). Auguste was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to German parents, from Mecklenburg. August was the son of John Lange and Louise. Wilhelmine was the daughter of Heirich Heiden and Elisabeth Schramm.
Janet’s mother Alice and her Martha M. Janssen were adopted by Joseph Heinzen and Mary. Their biological parents are listed as H. Jensen/Janssen and Mary Erst. Some sources indicate that Alice’s parents were Henry Janssen, who was born in Wisconsin, and Annie Elta Nelson, a Norwegian emigrant. It is not clear if this is accurate.
