Dev Patel is a British actor, director, and martial artist. He is known for his roles on the shows Skins and The Newsroom, and in the films Slumdog Millionaire, The Last Airbender, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and its sequel, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel; About Cherry, The Road Within, Chappie, The Man Who Knew Infinity, Only Yesterday, in voice-over; Lion (2016), Hotel Mumbai, The Wedding Guest, The Personal History of David Copperfield, I Lost My Body, in voice performance; The Green Knight, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, and Monkey Man, the latter of which he also directed and co-wrote.

Dev was born in Brent, London, England, to Anita, a care worker, and Raj Patel, an IT consultant. His parents are from a Gujarati Indian Hindu background. His parents are from Nairobi, Kenya, and moved to England in their teens, where they met each other. Dev was raised Hindu. His ancestors are from Jamnagar and Unjha in Gujarat. He speaks some Gujarati.

Dev and Lucas Hedges are the first males born in the 1990s to have been nominated for an Academy Award for acting (both were nominated for Best Supporting Actor for 2016 films, Dev for Lion and Lucas for Manchester by the Sea). Timothée Chalamet is the first person born in the decade to have been nominated for Best Actor, in 2017.

    are you sure he isn’t Shoshone? I will follow up on my claims with research into his talk show quotes, thats how u know someone is native.
