Her father, professional squash player Rehmat Khan, is Pakistani, and comes from the Khan squash family. Her mother is English. She is a niece of professional squash players Jahangir Khan, who was World No. 1, and Torsam Khan. She was raised partly in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire. Bat for Lashes has a daughter with her partner, Australian actor and model Samuel Watkins.
