Amir Khan is a British professional boxer. He held the regional Commonwealth lightweight title, from 2007 to 2008, unified light-welterweight world championships, from 2009 to 2012, including the WBA (later Super) and IBF titles, and the WBC Silver welterweight title, from 2014 to 2016. He is nicknamed “King.” He owns Khan Promotions and Pakistan’s Amir Khan Academy, and co-owns India’s Super Fight League (MMA) and Super Boxing League.
He is from the Janjua Rajput clan of Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan. The clan has a reputation as a group of warrior kings with a strong martial spirit. He has roots in the village Matore, of Kahuta Tehsil. Amir is a Muslim, a member of the Naqshbandi Sufi Order. His brother is professional boxer Haroon “Harry” Khan, and his first cousin is cricketer Sajid Mahmood.
He is married to Faryal Makhdoom, with whom he has two children.
