David Chase is an American screenwriter, showrunner, director, and producer. He created the HBO television series The Sopranos and wrote and directed the film Not Fade Away.

David is the only son of Norma (Bucco) and Enrico “Henry” Chase. His father was born in Rhode Island. His mother was born in New Jersey. All of his grandparents were Italian. David’s surname was originally spelt DeCesare, and was changed to Chase by his paternal grandmother. David was raised in Clifton and North Caldwell, New Jersey.

David is married to Denise Kelly, with whom he has a daughter, Michele DeCesare, who appeared on The Sopranos.

David’s paternal grandfather was named Giovanni DeCesare/DiCesare.

David’s paternal grandmother was named Teresa Melfi.

David’s maternal grandfather was named Vito Bucco.

David’s maternal grandmother was named Marion/Marian.
