Yorgos Lanthimos is a Greek director, producer, and screenwriter. Beginning in Greek cinema and transitioning to English-language productions, he has directed the films Kinetta, Dogtooth, Alps (2011), The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, all of which he co-wrote; The Favourite (2018), and Poor Things, and co-directed the film My Best Friend (2001). He often works in the psychologial thriller-horror genre, sometimes with a comedic twist.
He is the son of Eirini, a shop owner, and Antonis Lanthimos, a professional basketball player. He is married to actress and director Ariane Labed.
