Tye Sheridan is an American actor and producer. He has starred in the films The Tree of Life, Mud, Joe, The Forger, Entertainment (2015), Last Days in the Desert, The Stanford Prison Experiment, Dark Places, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Detour (2016), X-Men: Apocalypse, The Yellow Birds, All Summers End, Ready Player One, Age Out, The Mountain (2018), Dark Phoenix, The Night Clerk, Voyagers (2021), The Card Counter, The Tender Bar, and Asphalt City, and on the series Last Man Standing and Wireless. He co-founded production company Wonder Dynamics.
Tye is the son of Stephanie, who owns a beauty salon, and Bryan Sheridan, a UPS driver. He has ancestry in the American South for many generations and roots in the U.S. going back to at least the 1600s.
Tye was born and raised in Elkhart, Texas. An article in W Magazine wrote that roughly half of the small town’s residents are related to him (population 1,371 as of 2010). Tye added:
I did ancestry.com on my dad’s family, back to the early 1800s, before Texas won its independence from Mexico… Since then, they’ve all come from within a 30-mile radius of where I was born.
Tye’s paternal grandfather is Joe Wilson Sheridan (the son of Grady Wilson Sheridan and Billie Lois Campbell). Joe was born in Texas. Grady was the son of Zachary/Zachias/Zack Charles Sheridan and Lula/Lola Mae/May Pridgen. Billie Lois was the daughter of James Newton Campbell and Martha Mattie/Matilda Lee.
Tye’s paternal grandmother is Marilyn Louise Gilmer (the daughter of Richard Calhoun Gilmer, Jr. and Loudell/Laudell Wasson). Marilyn was born in Texas. Richard was the son of Richard Calhoun Gilmer and Ellen Marietta Bozeman. Loudell was the daughter of George Washington Wasson and Carrie Mae Michael, whose mother’s family was from LeLocle, Switzerland.
Tye’s maternal grandfather was Billy Joe Wright (the son of William Bill Wright and Rosa/Rosalita Lomenta/Lameta/Lemeta “Rosie” Maxwell). Billy Joe was born in Texas. William was the son of William Thomas Wright and Ellen Ada Trim. Rosa was the daughter of Joseph Sam Houston Maxwell and Zula Katie Belle/Bell Tucker/Bridges.

This is an Anglicized form of the Old Gaelic name O’ Sirideain. The Gaelic prefix “o” indicates “male descendant of”, plus the personal nickname Siridean composed of the element “siride” meaning “elf”, plus the diminutive suffix “an”. In Irish mythology, the elf was usually looked upon as a rather mischievous creature, so we can presume that the first name bearer was a mischief maker. The family originated in County Longford where they held church property. Later they moved to County Cavan – the county in which the name is most prevalent today.
