Michael is the son of Amber (Santaga) and Lewis Bublé. His parents’ families are from Italy. His father had Croatian ancestry, from Mali Lošinj.

Michael’s paternal grandfather was Frank Anthony Bublé (the son of Michele/Mitchell/Michael Bublé and Olga Anna Maria Gallovich/Gallowich/Galovic). Frank’s family was from Istria, now part of Croatia. His parents were born in Lussinpiccolo/Mali Lošinj. Michael’s great-grandfather Michael was the son of Frank Bublé and Maria Radoslovich/Radorlovich. Olga was the daughter of Antonio/Antony Gallovich/Gallowich and Maria Marsslin/Manolino.

Michael’s paternal grandmother was Nancy Percich (the daughter of Louie/Louis Percich and Eda Jane Cosulich). Eda was the daughter of Antonio Pietro Cosulich, from Lussinpiccolo, Istria, and of Cattarina Petronilla Gloria Poserina, from Mali Lošinj, Primorje-Gorski Kotar.

Michael’s maternal grandfather was Demetrio/Mitch/Midge Santagà (the son of Gino Santaga and Ines Morotto). Demetrio’s family was from Preganziol, Province of Treviso, Veneto, Italy.

Michael’s maternal grandmother was Yolanda/Iolanda Teresa Moscone (the daughter of Teodoro Moscone and Maria “Marietta” Celli). Yolanda’s family was from Carrufo, Province of L’Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy.

Michael has said:

my grandparents… played as big a role in my life as my mother and father, which is fairly typical of Italian immigrant families. My grandparents are second-generation Italians, descending on my mother’s side from a town outside Pescara, on the east coast of Italy. My grandpa Mitch Santaga’s family came to work in the mines in Alberta, where he grew up as a farm boy in a tiny town called Saunders. My dad’s father Frank was born in Vancouver, and his side of the family is from Dalmatia, originally Italian territory that became part of Yugoslavia after the Second World War. On that side of the family, some say we’re Yugoslavian, others that we’re Italian. Both my grandmothers are of Italian descent as well, but were born in Vancouver… I know some words and phrases [of Italian], but I’m not fluent. My grandparents, as second-generation Italians, are more Italian than the Italians in Italy. Because they left the old country so long ago, they have preserved the old ways and traditions, and passed them down to us. That’s why we share a love of music, food and family.

Cosulich family is quite big: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosulich_Line

The source of their Treccani profile is “Dizionario biografico degli Italiani” (Biographical dictionary of Italians) by Mario Barsali: https://www.treccani.it/enciclopedia/famiglia-cosulich_%28Dizionario-Biografico%29/

Michael himself has stated that both of his grandmothers are Italian.

Nancys father identified as Croat. Her mother too.

    • hrvat says:

Tons of celebrities have lied about their roots. Do u need a long list of their names? Frank Zappa had an interesting story about being a tons of things, when in reality he was basically all Italian with some family fairytales like Elizabeth warren being Indian. Josip peruzovic the wrestler Nikolai volkoff lied a bunch about his background, said 25% italian 50% Russian. I dug on instinct knowing they were lies to advance his career and found out he’s 100% Croat. Buble knows Italian sells better than Croatian. We don’t accommodate expedient lies here.

    • hrvat says:

Cosulic is a Croat name with no link to Italians. Triste and surrounding areas have been populated by croats for centuries.

    • hrvat says:

When someone with an Italian last name shows up in Croatian culture. We acknowledge his roots, be it 1/1200 or 100%. We don’t try to adopt the last name as ours or make up stories of how it got italianised. A last name tells a lot of stories. When ur whole family tree are Croat names it says a lot, such as bubles fathers tree. It makes no logical sense to say they were Italian names that got croatizied and no Croat blood infiltreted the people. All the Italian names in Croatia indicate some degree of Italian descent. Don’t tell me that Croat names in Croatia indicate Italian origins. Makes no logical sense. U can claim the Italian names of some Croatians. But you can’t claim the bubles the cosulichs the percichs.

    • hrvat says:

Some of buble fathers side ancestors identified more with Croatian than u think. Some identified with Italian perhaps but less than u think and eve those had mostly Croatian blood.

    • hrvat says:

Buble has no idea on his fathers side what he is cuz all 4 great grandparents emigrated at the turn of 20th century. He thinks it might be Yugoslavian or italian. He’s confused but ur not. Despite alll being born in what is today’s Croatia and having Croat names. My inkling is far more Croat than Italian genetically for sure and even culturally amongst most of those great grandparents based on what I read.

    hrvat,

If you keep acting like you do, you are going to be shown the door. There is no reason for your first posts here to be so aggressive and demanding. You lay your facts down in a mature way, or you can made to leave.

    • hrvat says:

You are aggressive now and think u can dominate? Are u a moderator? He was belittling Croatia and making out lies to be facts with arrogance. There are a ton of Croat names there, it needs to be mentioned that buble is a Croat name too. Why downplay the Croat side? Someone is hating with an agenda. That’s a fact. U ask nicely, if u want something. This is an ethnicity site. A lot of people here would just like us to label him Canadian and move on. Some of us like genealogy. Italian for this guy is far from reality and some haters would love it if Croatia was not even mentioned. I know for a fact his paternal ancestors were Croat before Italian.

Paternal grandmother was not Italian. Change those lies. Her parents were Louie Percich and Eda Cosulich. Eda remarried to Olich. Very Croatian on Nancy’s side. Nancy married Croat-native Frank who was 100% Croatian. All immediate names are Croatian there too Radoslovic, Galovic, etc. Buble is pure Croatian slavic, just like Bubla is pure Czech Slavic. Get out of here with Italian. He’s not Sinatra. He was discovered by yugoslav bev delich too.

  4. hrvat says:

Father Lewis is 100% Croat. Lewis mother Nancy was born to Louie Percich and Eda Cosulich. Add that to the entry and change it to 50% Croat, 50% Italian. Quick!
