Mathieu Amalric is a French actor and filmmaker. He has starred in the films The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and Quantum of Solace.

Mathieu is the son of Nicole Zand and Jacques Amalric, both journalists. His father worked as a foreign affairs editor for Le Monde and Libération, and his mother is a literary critic for Le Monde. His father was born in Montauban, Tarn-et-Garonne, Occitanie, France, and was from a Catholic family. His mother is Ashkenazi, from a Polish Jewish family.

Mathieu has three children, including two with his former wife, actress Jeanne Balibar.

Mathieu’s paternal grandfathe was Roger Amalric (the son of Andre Augustin Amalric and Laure Bach). Roger was born in Caylus, Tarn-et-Garonne, Midi-Pyrénées, France. Andre was born in Vaylats, Lot, Midi-Pyrénées, the son of Baptiste Amalric and Catherine Amalric.
