Mark Lanegan was an American singer, songwriter, author, and musician. He was the lead vocalist and guitarist of rock band Screaming Trees, and also a member of rock band Queens of the Stone Age; musical collaboration The Gutter Twins, that one with Greg Dulli; and grunge rock supergroup Mad Season. Barrett Martin, Mike McCready, John Baker Saunders, and Layne Staley were also members of Mad Season. He was also known as Dark Mark.
Mark was the son of Floy Joanne and Dale W. Lanegan. He was married to Shelley Brien. The couple moved to County Kerry, Ireland, in 2020.
Mark’s paternal grandfather was William Marshall Lanegan (the son of Andrew Lanegan and Martha Arnel Ross). William was born in Monona, Iowa. Andrew was the son of Alexander Lanegan and Eliza Ann Diamond.
Mark’s paternal grandmother was Ella Roena Geary (the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Geary and Samantha Jane Humphrey). Ella was born in Rapid City, South Dakota.
