Mark Hamill is an American actor, writer, director, and producer. He plays Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films and voices Joker in the animated Batman franchise.

Mark is the son of Virginia Suzanne (Johnson) and William Thomas Hamill. He is married to dental hygienist Marilou York, with whom he has three children.

Mark’s paternal grandfather was William Thomas Hamill (the son of Hockley Thomas Hamill and Katherine Bernadette Haggert/Haggart). William was born in Colorado. Hockley was the son of William Arthur Hamill, who was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, to a father from County Antrim, Ireland, and an English mother; and of Priscilla Leedom McKee. Mark’s great-grandmother Katherine was the daughter of James H. Haggert/Haggart, who was born in Kinclaven, Perthshire, Scotland, and of Catherine G. McNulty, whose parents were Irish.

Mark’s paternal grandmother was Helyn/Helen Harriette Mumford (the daughter of Frederick/Fred Albert Mumford and Elizabeth/Eliza M. Keating). Helyn was born in Colorado. Frederick was the son of Frederick Augustus/Augustine Mumford, who was born in Great Bardfield, Essex, England, and of Mary Harvey, who was Irish. Elizabeth was born in Clogh, Castlecomer, County Kilkenny, Ireland, the daughter of Edward “Ned” Keating and Mary Brennan.

Mark’s maternal grandfather was Luther Nathaniel Johnson (the son of Swan/Sven Johnson and Hannah/Hanna Josephine Peterson). Luther was born in Minnesota. Swan was born in Segutslycke, Osby, Kristianstad, Sweden, the son of John/Jon Månsson and Pernilla Sonesdotter/Soneson. Hannah was born in Iowa, to Swedish parents, John P. Peterson/Perrson, from Glimåkra, Kristianstad län, and Hanna/Hannah Bengtsdotter, from Hästveda, Kristianstad.

Mark’s maternal grandmother was Alice Catherine Rhodes (the daughter of Edward Alonzo Rhodes and Effie/Effe Alexander Hull). Alice was born in Minnesota. Edward was born in Michigan, to parents from New York, John W. Rhodes and Avilda M. Carr. Effie was born in Michigan or Canada, and was the daughter of John Alexander, who was Scottish, and of Margaret Moore Burns, who was Canadian. She was adopted by Oscar Hull and Ester/Esther Ann.

    A “dotter” on the end of a surname, I thought (don’t quote me on this ) can mean that someone actually has Icelandic (Danish) ancestry. Things could be pretty Interchangeable in that (Scandinavian) part of the world (just like they are in Europe and Great Britain etc. those borders aren’t as compartmentalized, even historically, as you’d first think)… which wouldn’t be “that” surprising, but “possibly” even “more” interesting! Especially for the owner or descent of those surnames!
