Maicon is a Brazilian professional footballer. A right-back, he has played for Cruzeiro, Monaco, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Roma, Avaí, Criciúma, Villa Nova, Sona, and Tre Penne, and the Brazil national team.

Maicon was born in Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, a town founded by German settlers. According to legend, he was supposed to be named after actor Michael Douglas, but his father, Manuel Sissenando, was misunderstood when registering the birth. However, Maicon himself has denied this. Michael Douglas was not a particularly well-known actor in 1981.

He is said to be a great-nephew of professional football player Valdomiro (Valdomiro Vaz Franco).
