Her surname comes from Wilma Lee Hatley’s second husband, John J. Hasson. For those who wondered, John’s paternal grandparents were Irish.

I had wondered about “Hasson” being a step-something surname, possibly even of Arabic origin (Syrian-Lebanese). Remember Cindy Crawford’s mother’s case for example.

Next time be more careful. Seriously how is Hasson an English surname? Very unlikely.

I have English relatives that have the surname of Hasson, they’re of Norman decent and have lived in England since the 11th century.
Hasson can be descended from the Norman-English name Hal or Harry.

Well, in this case the opposite was true; the surname from the step-parent had a common origin and the biological ancestor had a more interesting background.

I think Hasson can be many things; Irish, Scottish, English (yes, they do exists), French, Arab, Jewish etc. I don’t consider it to be a giant mistake if I put down English because of the surname and it turned out to be Irish, so I don’t agree that I should “be more careful”. I wouldn’t have considered every possibility when writing the profile, even if it’s not impossible that her grandfather was named Mohammad Hasson and was born in Saudi Arabia. Or it could’ve been changed from Hanson or something, and actually have an English origin. Big deal, it all gets sorted out eventually when we find the true ancestry.

Hasson is definitely NOT an English surname, rather Scots-Irish.

Hasson is an Israeli surname of mostly Mizrahi Jews (hails from either Hebrew or Arabic). Might be it and gets even smoother with her father’s first name Michael.

      • FrogMarch says:

Hasson and its many spellings are deeply embedded all over the ancient lands of the British isles.
From the Normans, to the Scottish/Irish.
Just because this surname is used in Islamic lands of the Near East doesn’t negate the fact that it’s a common surname of North Western European origin, as well.
        Your post makes zero sense.
        “Michael”?
        That means Mizrahi Jewish?
