Lloyd Bridges was an American actor. He appeared in over 150 films, beginning as a dramatic actor and transitioning to comedy. His roles include the films Sahara (1943), A Walk in the Sun, Little Big Horn (1951), High Noon (1952), the Airplane! and Hot Shots! franchises, and Jane Austen’s Mafia!, and the shows Sea Hunt and Seinfeld.

Lloyd was the son of Harriet Evelyn “Hattie” and Lloyd Vernet Bridges, who owned a movie theatre and was involved in the hotel business. His parents were from Kansas. He was married to actress Dorothy Bridges (born Dorothy Dean Simpson), until his death, with whom he had four children, including actors Beau Bridges (Lloyd Vernet Bridges III) and Jeff Bridges. His grandson, Beau’s son, is actor Jordan Bridges.

Lloyd’s paternal grandfather was John Hewston Bridges (the son of James Graham Bridges and Dorothy Parthena Jane Cabe). John was born in Colorado or Arkansas, to parents from North Carolina. James was the son of William Bridges and Jane. Dorothy was the daughter of James S. Cabe and Dorothy Sarah “Sally”/Salley Knight.

Lloyd’s paternal grandmother was Minnie Ellen Hortense Tibbetts/Tibbits (the daughter of Sidney/Sydney Tibbetts/Tibbits and Eleanor/Mary Ellen Titus). Minnie was born in Minnesota. Sidney was born in Vermont. Ellen was born in Ontario, Canada.

Lloyd’s maternal grandfather was Prairie Frank Brown (the son of Emerson Elisha Brown and Gratia Allbee/Albee). Prairie was born in Iowa, to parents from Vermont. Emerson was the son of Enos G. Brown and Hannah Griswold. Gratia was the daughter of William H. Allbee/Albee and Lucrecia/Lucretia Johnson.

Lloyd’s maternal grandmother was Mary/Maria/Marie Elizabeth Barnhill (the daughter of John David Barnhill and Lydia Ann Case). Maria was born in Iowa. John was the son of Daniel Klinous Barnhill and Cynthia Ann Caldwell.
