She is known for her appearances as a Mouseketeer on The New Mickey Mouse Club and her nine-year role as the preppy and wealthy Blair Warner on the series The Facts of Life. She is the daughter of Virginia May/Mae “Genny” (French) and James Lee “Jimmy” Whelchel.

Lisa’s paternal grandfather was Ephriam/Ephren Lee Whelchel (the son of Francis Marion Whelchel and Esther Irene Mayfield). Francis was the son of William Harrison Whelchel and Isabell Peoples Rogers.
