Laura Nyro was an American songwriter, singer, and pianist. She was the daughter of Gilda (Mirsky) and Louis Nigro. Her paternal grandfather was Italian, and her other grandparents were Ashkenazi Jewish. She had a son with her former partner Harindra Singh.

Laura’s paternal grandfather was Joseph Nigro (the son of Michael Nigro and Carmela Marinacco). Joseph was Italian, born in Napoli.

Laura’s paternal grandmother was Esther Passov (the daughter of Hyman Passov and Lena/Leah/Lizzie Robb). Esther was a Russian Jewish immigrant. Lena was the daughter of Laeb Robb and Esther.

Laura’s maternal grandfather was named Isidor/Isadore Israel Mirsky (the son of Joseph Mirsky). Isidor was a Polish Jewish immigrant.

Laura’s maternal grandmother was named Sophia/Sophie Meyerowitz (the daughter of Arshon/George/Gershon Meyerowitz and Shandel/Sadie). Sophia was a Russian Jewish immigrant.

    I learned that Laura Nyro’s paternal grandfather was named Joseph Nigro.

    I would like to see Laura Nyro’s family tree. Wikipedia says she has some Polish ancestry, but I haven’t seen it from any other source. Her father had Italian heritage and her mother Russian Jewish, so I don’t know which side of the family any Polish ancestry came from.
