Kim Carnes is an American singer and songwriter. She is known for her song “Bette Davis Eyes.”
Her father, James Raymond Carnes, was an attorney. Her mother was a hospital administrator. She was raised mostly in Pasadena. Kim is married to Dave Ellingson, with whom she has two children, Collin and Ry, who have also worked in music.
Kim’s paternal grandfather was Raymond John Carnes (the son of Frederick “Fred” Carnes and Margaretta Rosalie “Margaret/Maggie” Warner). Raymond was born in Wisconsin. Frederick’s father, Jedediah Carnes, was American, with English ancestry. Frederick’s mother, Marit “Mary” Pedersdatter (likely Korstad), was a Norwegian immigrant. Margaretta’s father, Heinrich “Henry” Warner, was a German emigrant, from Pirmasens, Rhineland-Palatinate. Margaretta’s mother, Margaret Daly, was an Irish emigrant, from Killorglin, County Kerry, and had Irish, some English, and remote Welsh, descent. Her mother, Mary Catherine McGillycuddy/MacGillycuddy, was the 41st patrilineal great-granddaughter of Mogh Nuaghad, King of Munster.
Kim’s paternal grandmother was named Ida Charlotte Håkanson/Rosenquist. Ida was a Swedish emigrant, from Näsby, Jönköping, Småland.

This is the first wife of Kim’s father, Enid Calvin Edwards. She married James in 1937, then divorce and re-married Clifford Hamilton STONER. Could she be Kim’s mother?
Enid married Clifford a couple of months before Kim’s birth, that’s a littlo odd, but it would explain the surname Stoner (mispronounced Stone) on Kim’s birth record.
Enid died in 1956, when Kim was 10, maybe this is useful information.
Also, in a 1950 census of the family of Kim there is a “Billie Carnes” as the wife of James. She would be his second wife, and would be either Kim’s mother or step-mother.
Enid’s parents were Canadian emigrants, and were of English and some Scottish descent.
Hello! Kim is a 2nd cousin of mine! Aunt Billie was her step mother but always just considered her mom <3
I have several corrections:
Kim’s paternal grandfather had also Irish and remote Welsh.
Ida’s maiden surname may also have been Rosenquist.
Fred Carnes and Margaret Warner -> Frederick “Fred” Carnes and Margaretta “Margaret/Maggie” Warner
Mary Petersen -> Marit “Mary” Pedersdatter (likely Korstad)
Jedidah Carnes -> Jedediah Carnes
Margaretta’s father, Heinrich “Henry” was a German immigrant from Pirmasens, Rhineland-Palatinate. Margaretta’s mother, Margaret Daly, was an Irish immigrant from Killorglin, County Kerry, of Irish, some English, and remote Welsh descent. Her mother, Mary Catherine McGillycuddy, was the 41st patrilineal great-granddaughter of Mogh Nuaghad, King of Munster.
