Hera Hilmar is an Icelandic actress. Her roles include the films Tears of Stone, The Quiet Storm, Two Birds, Anna Karenina (2012), Life in a Fishbowl, Get Santa, The Oath (2016), The Ottoman Lieutenant, An Ordinary Man, The Ashram, and Mortal Engines, and television’s World Without End, Da Vinci’s Demons, The Romanoffs, and See. She has also been billed by her birth name Hera Hilmarsdóttir.

She is the daughter of actress Þórey Sigþórsdóttir and film director Hilmar Oddsson. Her grandfather was playwright and theatre director Oddur Björnsson.

Hera’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her eighth great-grandfather, Oddur Marteinsson.

Hera’s paternal grandfather was Oddur Björnsson (the son of Björn Hannes Ragnar Oddsson, who later appended another last name with Björns­son, and of Guðríður Vigfúsdóttir). Oddur was born in Ásar, Skaftártunga. Björn was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, the son of Icelandic parents, Odd­ur Björns­son and Ingibjörg Benjamínsdóttir. Guðríður was the daughter of Vigfús Gunnarsson and Sigríður Sveinsdóttir.

Hera’s paternal grandmother was Borghildur Thors (the daughter of Louis Hilm­ar Thors and Elísa­bet Ólafs­dótt­ir). Borghildur as born in Reykjavík. Hilmar was the son of Thor Philip Axel Jensen, who was Danish, from Frederiksberg, and of Margrét Þorbjörg Kristjánsdóttir. Elísa­bet was the daughter of Ólafur Björnsson and Borghildur Pétursdóttir Thorsteinsson.

Hera’s maternal grandfather is Sigþór Ingólfsson (the son of Ingólfur Guðmundsson and Þórey Sigurðardóttir). Sigþór was born in Reykjavík. Ingólfur was the son of Guðmundur Björnsson and Guðrún Einarsdóttir. Þórey was the daughter of Sigurður Jónsson and Ingibjörg Þóra Jónsdóttir.

Hera’s maternal grandmother was Sólrún Þorgeirsdóttir (the daughter of Ingimundur Þorgeir Þórarinsson and Svava Gísladóttir). Sólrún was born in Patreksfjörður, Westfjords. Þorgeir was the son of Þórarinn Bjarnason and Guðmundína Einarsdóttir. Svava was the daughter of Gísli Bergsveinsson and Magðalena Lára Kristjánsdóttir.
