Fay Bainter was an American actress and singer. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Jezebel (1938).
Fay was the daughter of Mary (Okell) and Charles Franklin Bainter. Her father was born in Indiana, of mostly or entirely German descent. Her mother was born in England, and possibly had Irish ancestry. Fay was married to U.S. Navy officer Reginald Venable, until his death. The couple had a son.
Fay’s paternal grandfather was Frederick Bainter (the son of Frederick Bainter and Margaret Roof). Fay’s grandfather Frederick was born in Pennsylvania or Ohio. Fay’s great-grandfather Frederick was the son of German parents, Godfrey Bainter and Margaret Benter.
