Evan’s paternal grandfather was Henry Mathew Peters (the son of Henry William Peters and Anna/Annie Mary Duesterhaus). Evan’s grandfather Henry was born in Quincy, Illinois. Evan’s great-grandfather Henry was the son of Johann Heinrich Peters, who was a German emigrant, from Esserden, Nordrhein-Westfalen, and of Anna Mary Catherine Wilde, who was born in Illinois, to German emigrants, from Hanover. Evan’s great-grandmother Anna was also the daughter of German emigrants, Heinrick/Henerick Duesterhaus/Duesterhus, from Ostenland, and Elizabeth Reskenplenk Hollander.
Evan’s paternal grandmother was Rosa Lee “Rollie” Gredell (the daughter of Paul Peter Gredell and Mary Ellen Kroeger). Rosa was born in Quincy, Illinois. Paul was the son of Johan Ludwig “John” Gredell, who was a German emigrant, from Baden-Württemberg, and of Mary Katherine “Kate” Wellmann, the daughter of German emigrants, from Ankum, Hanover. I had no idea that he was exclusively of German descent. Interesting! I believe it may have significant amounts of R1b-S28 (U152), of the Italo-Celtic type, which has a significant presence in Southern Germany and Eastern France, in regions such as North Rhine and Westphalia there must be a degree of Alpine admixture. That’s excluding the possibility that he has Balkan blood.
So, all his grandparents married into the German-American community, that’s rare !
There are pockets in the U.S. where there are heavily German-American demographics, like Missouri (relatively more recent immigrants, like Peters’ family), Iowa (going a bit farther back to the mid/late 1800s), and Pennsylvania (where many German-Americans have lived in the U.S. for 300 years).
Paul Rust is a good example of a fairly deep-rooted Iowa German. The current Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania are both pretty much German ethnically, with that 300 year ancestry lineage and almost no recent immigrants on their tree.
@Akwaba that isn’t rare at all. German is the most common ethnicity in the U.S. Irish is a close second.
“Two of Evan’s paternal great-grandparents possibly were Henry W. Peters and Elizabeth Regina Gebhart, who were born in Illinois, both of them to parents of German origin. If Henry and Elizabeth are Evan’s great-grandparents, then Evan is a third cousin, once removed, of actor Tom Welling. Tom’s paternal great-great-grandparents, Johann/John Heinrich/Henry Welling and Euphemia Maria Maier, were the maternal grandparents of Henry W. Peters.”
This paragraph needs to be removed.
