Elis Regina was a Brazilian singer. Known for popular and jazz music, she is considered one of the greatest Brazilian artists of all time. She was nicknamed “Pimentinha” and “Furacão.”

She was born in Porto Alegre, the daughter of Ercy Carvalho and Romeu de Oliveira Costa. Her father had Indigenous ancestry. Her mother was the daughter of Portuguese immigrants. Elis Regina had three children, music producer João Marcello Bôscoli, with her first husband Ronaldo Bôscoli; and singers Pedro Mariano and Maria Rita, with her second husband, pianist, arranger, composer, and music producer César Camargo Mariano (born Antônio César Camargo Mariano).

Elis Regina’s paternal grandfather was named Francisco Dias da Costa.

Elis Regina’s paternal grandmother was named Idalina de Oliveira Flores.
