He is the son of Eleanor May and Maurice Perry “Morry” Foster, an officer worker. David is married to American actress, singer, and songwriter Katharine McPhee. He has seven children, including a daughter, songwriter and author Amy S. Foster, with his former wife, singer and writer B.J. Cook; three, including actress Sara Foster and writer, performer, and entrepreneur Erin Foster, with his former wife Rebecca Dyer; and a son with Katharine.
David’s paternal grandfather was Walter Milligan Foster (the son of James Rennie Foster and Emma Gladhill). Walter was an English emigrant, who was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire. James was the son of Thomas Foster and Mary Thomson/Thompson, who was Scottish. Emma was the daughter of Richard Gladhill and Sarah Couldwell.
