Milton was born in North Carolina, the son of Hanson Burt and Mary Eliza Pullen. Betty was born in North Carolina, the daughter of John Hedgepeth and Sarah J. Richardson.

Cleo’s maternal grandmother was Thelma Louise Wright (the daughter of John Thomas Wright and Amanda Louise Langston). Thelma was born in Virginia. John was born in Virginia, the son of Thomas W.
