Benoît Hamon is a French politician. He has represented Yvelines in the French National Assembly, since 17 June, 2012. He was previously Member of the European Parliament, from 13 June, 2004 to 7 June, 2009, Minister for the Social Economy, from 16 May, 2012 to 31 March, 2014, and Minister of National Education, from 2 April, 2014 to 25 August, 2014.

He was the nominee of the Socialist Party in the 2017 French presidential election, and lost in the first round.

Benoît’s father, François Marie Hamon, was born in Plougastel-Daoulas, Finistère. Benoît’s mother is named Marguerite Marie Françoise “Margot” Kersivien.
