Anna is the daughter of Karen, a special education teacher, and Jack Faris, a sociology professor. Her family moved to Edmonds, Washington, when she was six. She is married to cinematographer Michael Barrett. She has a son with her former husband, actor Chris Pratt. Anna has also been credited as Anna Faris-Indra, while married to first husband, actor Ben Indra, and as Anna Faris-Pratt.
Anna’s patrilineal line traces to Ian Esom Farris, who was born, c. 1640, in Rutherglen, Scotland, and to his wife, Emily Jane Cameron.
Anna’s paternal grandfather was Robert E. Lee Faris (the son of Ellsworth Eugene Faris and Elizabeth “Bessie” Homan). Robert was born in Waco, McLennan, Texas. Anna’s maternal grandfather was Winchell Bathurst (the son of John Bathurst and Veronica/Vinnie Ream Winchell). Anna’s grandfather Winchell was born in Seattle, King, Washington.
