Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson ethnicity

Birth Name: Dwayne Douglas Johnson

Place of Birth: Hayward, Alameda, California, United States

Date of Birth: May 2, 1972

Ethnicity:
*African-Canadian/Black Nova Scotian, small amount of Irish (father)
*Samoan (mother)

Dwayne Johnson, also credited as The Rock, is an American professional wrestler, actor, and producer.

He is the son of Ata Johnson (born Feagaimaleata or Mataniufeagaimaleata Fitisemanu Maivia) and Rocky Johnson (born Wayde Douglas Bowles), a Canadian and American wrestler. A picture of Dwayne at a young age, along with his parents, can be found here.

Dwayne’s father, who is black (African-Canadian), was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada, of Black Nova Scotian heritage. Black Nova Scotians are descended from African-Americans who left the U.S. after the American Revolution, having sided with the British. Dwayne’s paternal grandparents were both black, and Dwayne has stated that he also found out that he has some “strong Irish blood” on his father’s side. Dwayne has also been said to have First Nations (Native Canadian) ancestry, although it is not clear if that is accurate.

Dwayne’s mother is Samoan. Dwayne spent some time growing up in New Zealand, where he was able to learn about his Pacific Islander heritage.

Dwayne was selected People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2016. He is the second non-caucasian person to have been given this title by the magazine (Denzel Washington, in 1996, was the first). Dwayne is also the second African-American (after Washington), and the first Polynesian-American, to have thus far been given the title.

Dwayne’s partner is singer and songwriter Lauren Hashian, with whom he has a daughter. He also has a daughter with his ex-wife, Dany Garcia.

Dwyane’s paternal grandfather is James Henry A. Bowles (the son of John W. Bowles and Lila/Lilla Jones). John was the son of Stephen Bowles and Charlotte. Lila was the daughter of Henry Jones and Mary.

Dwyane’s paternal grandmother is Lillian Gay (the daughter of Alfred Nathan Gay and Isabelle/Isabel Sickles). Isabelle was the daughter of Benjamin Sickles and Hannah.

Dwyane’s maternal grandfather was Fanene Leifi Pita Maivia (the son of Rebecca Fanene). Fanene was a famous Samoan pro-wrestler, under the name Peter Maivia. In Dwayne’s early wrestling days, he was known as Rocky Maivia, a combination of the nicknames of his father, Rocky Johnson, and his grandfather, Peter Maivia.

Dwayne’s maternal grandmother was Ofelia “Lia” Fuataga. Ofelia was born in Lalomanu, Aleipata, Western Samoa (then under New Zealand rule, now independent), and was a wrestling promoter.

Channing Tatum

by ethnic on October 19, 2014

Birth Name: Channing Matthew Tatum

Place of Birth: Cullman, Alabama, United States

Date of Birth: April 26, 1980

Ethnicity: English, some Scots-Irish (Northern Irish), distant Scottish, German, and Welsh, remote French

Channing Tatum is an American film actor, model, dancer, and producer. After early film roles, including Coach Carter, Supercross, and Havoc, he became famous for starring in the hit films Step Up, Dear John, The Vow, 21 Jump Street, and Magic Mike. He is married to actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum. Channing was selected People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2012. He is the first person born in the 1980s to have been given this title by the magazine, and thus could be considered the first millennial to have been given it.

Channing’s patrilineal line traces back to a Nathaniel Tatum, who was born, c. 1599, in London, England. Channing’s family has lived in the United States, and specifically in the American South, for many generations. His documented ancestry includes English, some Scots-Irish (Northern Irish), distant Scottish, German, and Welsh, and remote French.

Channing has stated that he has Native American ancestry. It is not clear if this Native American ancestry has been verified/documented. Channing’s grandparents, great-grandparents, and great-great-grandparents are listed as “White” on United States Censuses. Various fan websites, citing no apparent sources, have also claimed that Channing is of 1/16th African-American ancestry. No evidence has ever been produced to support this claim, either. Channing has also said that his father has Creole ancestry, possibly confusing “Creole” and “Cajun”, although no Creole nor Cajun ancestry is contained among any of his genealogy.

Channing’s paternal grandfather was Samuel Hudson Tatum (the son of Enoch Wilkerson/Wilkinson/Wilson Tatum, Sr. and Josephine/Jo Hunt). Enoch was the son of James Thomas Tatum and Martha Lisa Frances Anderson. Josephine was the daughter of James William Hunt and Alice Ferrell.

Channing’s paternal grandmother was Avis Jearlene/Jearleane/Jerlene Hunt (the daughter of Harvey Reed Hunt and Nellie Pearl Esco). Harvey was the son of William Henry Hunt and Aurelia Corrine/Corine Ross. Nellie was the daughter of Charles Fleming Esco and Georgia Lucinda Elizabeth Hopper.

Channing’s maternal grandfather was Bascom Floyd Faust (the son of Amariah/Amirah Biggs Faust and Rozella/Rosella/Rosellar Rhodes). Amariah was the son of William Lemuel/Leonard Faust and Missouri Ellen Stubbs. Rozella was the daughter of John Thomas Rhodes and Mary Elizabeth McCall.

Channing’s maternal grandmother was Mayzell “Mozell”/”Mazzie” Allen (the daughter of William Alonzo “Lon” Allen and Ada Beatrice McGrady). William was the son of Thomas Edman Allen and Sarah Ann Frances Elizabeth Thomas. Ada was the daughter of Robert Farmer McGrady and Catherine Watson.
