Teddy Riner is a French judoka. He has won ten World Championship Gold medals and two Olympic gold medals. He is the most titled judoka and one of the most successful French athletes. He is nicknamed “Teddy Bear” and “Big Ted.”
Teddy was born in Pointe-à-Pitre, on the Carribbean island Grande-Terre, in Guadeloupe, the son of Marie-Pierre Melgard and Moïse Riner. He grew up in Paris. Teddy is a cousin of French rapper Doc Gynéco. He has two children with his partner, model Luthna Plocus.
Teddy’s paternal grandfather is Maurice Riner “Ti-Maurice” (the son of Maurice Félicien Riner and Félicie Bernardine Ramsamy). Teddy’s grandfather Maurice was born in Vieux-Habitants, Guadeloupe. Félicie was the daughter of Sylvestre “Albert” Cécé and Hélène Ramsamy, who was the daughter of South Asian Indian immigrants.
Teddy’s paternal grandmother was Brunette Grenot (the daughter of Tiburce Anastase Grenot and Clémence Gervina Varin).
Teddy’s maternal grandfather is named Pierre Alexandre Melgard. Pierre is from Petit-Bourg, Guadeloupe.
