Maura Healey is an American politician and lawyer. A member of the Democratic Party, she has been Governor of Massachusetts, since January 5, 2023. She was previously Attorney General of Massachusetts, from January 21, 2015 to January 5, 2023. She is one of the first two openly lesbian women elected governor of a U.S. state, along with Tina Kotek.
She was raised in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire. Her father was a captain in the U.S. Public Health Service and an engineer, and her mother was a nurse.
Maura’s paternal grandfather was named Jeremiah Healey. Jeremiah was from Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry.
Maura’s paternal grandmother was named Margaret Riordan. Margaret was from Macroom, Co. Cork.
Maura’s maternal grandfather was named Russell Thomas Burton.
Maura’s maternal grandmother was Dorothy May Porter (the daughter of Frank Sumner Porter and Katherine Tracy). Frank was the son of Jeremiah Woods Porter and Henrietta Hobbs Titcomb. Katherine was from Ballinasloe, County Galway.
