Marian Seldes was an American stage, film, radio, and television actress. She was the daughter of Gilbert Seldes (Gilbert Vivian Seldes), a journalist, and Alice Wadhams (Hall), a socialite. Her uncle (father’s brother) was journalist, editor, and author George Seldes.
Her father was born in New Jersey, to Russian Jewish parents. Her mother was Protestant.
She was married to writer and director Garson Kanin, until his death. She had a daughter with her former husband, actor and war correspondent Julian Claman.
