María Félix was a Mexican actress and singer. One of the most legendary figures of Latin American cinema in the 1940s and 1950s, she was also considered one of the most beautiful actresses of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. She was known as “La Doña” and “María Bonita.”
María was the daughter of Maria Josefina de Jesus Rosas y Guereña and Bernardo Félix Flores, who was a military officer and politician. Her mother was raised in California. She had fifteen siblings. María was partly raised in Álamos and Guadalajara, where she was crowned Beauty Queen at the University of Guadalajara.
María was married to singer and actor Jorge Negrete, until his death, and then to Romanian-born French banker Alex Berger, until his death. She had a son, actor Enrique Álvarez Félix, with her first husband, cosmetics sales agent Enrique Álvarez Alatorre.
María’s paternal grandfather was Fernando Maria Olea Félix (the son of Jose Jacinto Valdez Félix and Maria Trinidad Valenzuela Olea). Fernando was born in La Cobriza, Quiriego, Sonora, Mexico. Jose was the son of Fernando Maria del Nieto de Lobada Felix and Carmen Valdez. María’s great-grandmother María was the daughter of Antonio Valenzuela Olea and Maria Juana Burboa Valenzuela.
María’s paternal grandmother was María de la Paz Delores Felix Flores (the daughter of Miguel Flores and Maria del Sacramento Armentia Felix). María’s grandmother María was born in Alamos, Sonora, Mexico.
María’s maternal grandfather possibly was Amado Guereña Chavez (the son of Modesto Guereña Santeliz, and of a woman surnamed Chavez Ronquillo). Modesto was the son of Joseph Ygnacio Magrimo De Jesus Guereña Velarde and María Bárbara Santeliz. Amado’s maternal grandparents were Nepomuceno Chavez, and a woman surnamed Ronquillo.
María’s maternal grandmother was named Dolores Rosas Cazares (the daughter of Pedro Rosas, and of a woman surnamed Cazares).
