Julieta Venegas is an American-born Mexican singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, producer, and actress.
She is the daughter of photographers Julia Edith Percevault Manzano and José Luis Venegas Mesta. Her twin sister is photographer Yvonne Venegas. She grew up in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Julieta has a daughter with Argentinian musicologist Rodrigo Garcia Prieto.
In an article about their family history, Julieta’s sister Yvonne stated:
My great-great-grandfather was a French priest who came to Santa Rosalía and ended up marrying a Yaqui woman; there he settled and had his children and his grandchildren. But my family and I know very little about this past.
Julieta’s paternal grandfather was Juan Luis de Jesús Venegas Coronel (the son of Luis Ignacio Venegas Ortega and Maria Concepcion de la Candelaria Coronel Asunsola). Juan was born in Gómez Palacio, Durango, Mexico. Julieta’s great-grandfather Luis was the son of Juan Felis Trinidad Venegas Landrove and Maria de la Luz Ortega Arvide. Julieta’s great-grandmother Maria was the daughter of Angel Coronel Casas and Soledad Asunsola Peña.
Julieta’s paternal grandmother was Constanza Mesta Robledo (the son of Amado Mesta Gonzalez and Constanza Robledo Valenzuela). Julieta’s grandmother Constanza was born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, México. Amado was the son of Antonio Mesta Galvan and Maria Leonarda Sanches Garcia. Julieta’s great-grandmother Constanza was the daughter of Agustin Robledo and Maria Crúz Valenzuela.
Julieta’s maternal grandfather was Rodolfo Percevault Ceseña (the son of Francisco Jose Percevault Sobarzo and Amelia Ceseña Sandez). Rodolfo was born in Santa Rosalía, Baja California Sur. Francisco was the son of André Joseph Percevault, who was born in Saint Malo, Brittany, France, and of Francisca Sobarzo. Amelia was the daughter of Manuel Vidal Ceseña Agundis and Maria Amelia Sandez Ojeda.
Julieta’s maternal grandmother was Julia Manzano Verdugo (the daughter of Heraclio Manzano Gallardo and Maria Manuela Verdugo Arias). Julia was born in Santa Rosalia, Mexico. Heraclio was the son of Paulino Manzano Davila and Matiana Gallardo Figueroa. Maria was the daughter of Timoteo Verdugo Márquez and Maria Dolores Arias Duarte.
