Klaus Iohannis, also spelled Johannis, is a Romanian politician, physicist, and teacher. He has served as President of Romania, since 21 December, 2014. He was previously Leader of the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania, from 2002 to 2013, and Leader of the National Liberal Party, from 28 June, 2014 to 18 December, 2014. He is also known as KWI.
Klaus is the son of Susanne, a nurse, and Gustav Heinz Johannis, a technician. His parents moved from Sibiu to Würzburg, Bavaria, Germany, in 1992, as Transylvanian Saxons, under the German right of return law. Klaus speaks German, Romanian, and English. He is a member of a Lutheran church, the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Romania. He is married to teacher of English, Carmen Georgeta Lăzurcă.
Both his parents are German. Susanne is a German variant of the name, Romanian would be Suzana.
