In an article at Standard.co.uk, Kerry stated about her background:

My mother comes from a mixed-race background but from Jamaica, so she is partly English and Scottish and native American, but also descended from African slaves in the Caribbean. My [legal] dad’s family is four or five generations Brooklyn-based, but before that from South Carolina, and we are not sure which members of his family were slaves and which were free blacks.

She has said that her mother is a cousin of U.S. General and Secretary of State Colin Powell.

One of Kerry’s grandmothers is named Isabelle.

    (“Black American-Jamaican-British-Scottish bloodlines”)

Sounds like a regular old black person on this side of the world(a mixture of everything)

    • Multiethnicchick says:

Yeah but being black means being of black African descent.

If you have a significant amount of non black heritage then you’re mixed plain and simple

  2. Multiethnicchick says:

Judging by her mother she at least a quarter or more mixed

  3. AJLO7 says:

Um. Jamaicans ARE Black. Jamaican is just another Nationality like Cuban, Mexican, Dominican, Puerto Rican, are Nationalities but are still Hispanic and some have mixed ancestry and culture like many other people of different nationalities.

    • Multiethnicchick says:

No not all Jamaicans are black.

Noooo, they are latinos when it comes to that. Hispanics are white/caucasians from Spain. Also, Ya never realize but USA is mostly the only pressured country in the whole world that does that ethnicity deal and sometimes it is ultimately wrong, but people make mistakes and learn through them. Even, when there is the hispano-conferences, they mean Spanish speaking, not exactly Spanish influence. Even, latin, central, south American countries are always hating and fighting each other. Also, just because someone has a heritage does not mean that they are that heritage or ethnicity. Even look at the prince williams, he is such a mixture of caucasian yet he is all those things and not in some ways because he hold the royal crown in birth.

Spanish people from Spain are caucasion!!!!!! Hispanics from Latin America.South Americans are very mixed. Some are caucasion but they can not be sure as sometimes if a certain mix is from generations ago i.e black…it may not show up (but it would in one of those dna tests which ascertain ethnicity)…..The bottom line is only Spanish from Spain are white and having lived in Spain …they do not view Latin/south Americans as the same as them!!!

          • Tangerine says:

Apart from speaking terrible English, you have no idea what you are talking about. Go to Argentina and Uruguay and you’ll see lots of white people whose ancestry can be easily traced because they descend from European immigrants who settled down in South America during the late 19C or 20 century, mainly, yes from Spain and Italy but also from Germany, Poland and so on, just like they went to US in search of working opportunities so they did in South America.
And think about it next time you try to put everyone in the same bag; South America is a melting pot with all sorts of ethnicities and many of the whites over there are way lighter skinned than many Spaniards, especially the gipsy ones that are also looked down in their own country and ridiculed with racial slurs.

AJLO7- You’re an idiot. There are Chinese Jamaicans and Indian Jamaicans, not every single Jamaican is of African descent.

    • fuzzybear44 says:

    • hmarie says:

Please!!!!! You knew she couldn’t be black? I am half Jamaican half English and i class myself as black. .Most Jamaicans are black. Kerry Washington is black!!! Maybe not 100% but she still is black….. I am sick of black non Africans trying to distance themselves from Africa and the word Black. Self hate is what is keeping us back!!!
