Joachim Gauck is a German politician and civil rights activist. He served as President of Germany, from 18 March, 2012 to 18 March, 2017. He was also a Member of the Volkskammer for Rostock, from 18 March, 1990 to 2 October, 1990, and a Member of the Bundestag for East Germany, from 3 October, 1990 to 4 October, 1990.
Joachim is the son of Olga Frieda Henrika “Olly” (Warremann) and Wilhelm Joachim Gauck. He has four children with his wife Gerhild “Hansi” Radtke, from whom he has been long separated.
Joachim’s paternal grandfather was Walter Robert Lothar Müller (the son of Robert Müller and Agnes Lina). Walter was born in Connewitz, Leipzig, Saxony.
Joachim’s paternal grandmother was Antonie Erna Wilhelmine Emma Gauck (the daughter of Ernst Wilhelm Heinrich Gauck and Sophie Wilhelmine Marie Rasch).
