Jimi Hendrix was a legendary American guitarist, singer, and songwriter.
He was the son of Lucille (Jeter) and James Allen Hendrix, both of whom were African-American. Jimi had two children.
Jimi is sometimes described as having had Irish, Native American (often specifically Cherokee), Aztec (specifically Nahua), and/or other ancestry. It is not clear if these lineages have been verified/documented. Jimmy’s recent ancestors were black.
Jimi’s paternal grandfather was Bertran Philander “Ross” Hendrix/Hendricks (the son of Thomas Jefferson Hendrix/Hendricks and Frances/Fannie Whitfield). Ross was born in Ohio.
Jimi’s paternal grandmother was Zenora Rose “Nora” Moore (the daughter of Robert J. Moore and Fanny Nealy). Zenora was born in Tennessee or Georgia. Robert was the son of Zenora. Fanny was the daughter of Sandy Neuly/Nealy and Prissy Bostwell.
Jimi’s maternal grandfather was Preston Murice Jeter (the son of R. E. Jeter and Elizabeth Brown). Preston was born in Virginia.
Jimi’s maternal grandmother was Clarice Larson/Lawson (the daughter of Preston Brown and Laura Larson). Clarice was born in Arkansas or Texas.

Jimmy Hendrix was Irish so why isn’t Irish listed? And why do you need a record to list that he is? If he said he was Irish then he is Irish-American
according to this genealogy, Jimi’s patrilineal line traces back to Ireland. This would make him 1/64 Irish.

That genealogy lists Hendrix’s great-grandfather as Philander Burt Ross, a white man.
Findagrave lists Hendrix’s great-grandfather as Thomas Jefferson Hendricks, “one of the oldest colored men of this city” [Urbana].
That genealogy is based on the family legend about Philander Burt Ross, a grain dealer, banker, and one of the wealthiest landowners in Urbana, Ohio, who might have been the biological father of Jimi’s paternal grandfather, Bertran Philander Ross (later Hendricks/Hendrix), who was named after him by Jimi’s great-grandmother, Fannie Whitfield (who lived in Philander Burt Ross’s property). http://crosstowntorrents.org/archive/index.php/t-6770.html
I do think this should be mentioned here
is there a pic, please?
I read somewhere he was part Mexican too
He definitely wasn’t part Mexican.

According to “The Essential Jimi Hendrix” by Rotimi Ogunjobi, all Jimi’s grandparents were of mixed-race:
Nora Rose Moore was the daughter of a Cherokee father and a mulatto mother; Bertran Philander Hendrix was the son of a former slave and the white merchant who once owned him. Preston Jeter’s parents were also a former slave and a slave owner; Clarice Lawson was of mixed Cherokee and slave descent.
We should look for the Census records.

so we know that some of Jimi’s relatives were listed as “mulatto”. Good find.
Frances Whitfield’s record as “white” is described as “poor transcription”

A “Mulatto” listing doesn’t mean much. It doesn’t necessarily imply a direct mix (and all African-Americans have white ancestry, anyway).
Bertran Handrix definitely wasn’t white.

(and all African-Americans have white ancestry, anyway)
Well not all, but most. However it does tell you something about the dirty that went down in this country
Also as far bertran goes, No she most definitely was not
Bertran Handrix wasn’t clearly white, but why using double standards? “mulatto” record is important for Shaileene Woodley and others but not for Jimi?
I don’t understand the question? The “Mulatto” is important for Shailene because it shows they weren’t white.
You can find “Mulatto” listings in every African-American’s family tree. Especially the 1920 census, where it was very common.

Brilliant research
@follers How do you know he isn’t part Mexican?
Follers always has their ducks in a row.
The best book ever on Jimi is ELECTRIC GYPSY (1990) that tells you of Jimi’s racial origins. Jimi’s father Al was Afro-American and part Irish. Jimi’s mother Lucille was Afro-American and Cherokee.
He was influenced by his Indian roots and makes loads of references in his music. Sadly Jimi never lived along enough to explore his Irish Heritage. The closest he got was to Fly into Belfast to play a concert and back to England, the next day.
But if you look at his surname Hendricks-changed to Hendrix, it is obviously of Dutch origin
Jimi Hendrix sure looks a bit Cherookee
Jimmi Hendrix is black had very nappy hair however he did put Straightener in it. he might have white or other races in his background. but this is not uncommon, most blacks do.
Jimmy Hendrix is Irish. Black is not a ethnicity
I guess that’d be Black Irish, huh?
