Javier Pérez de Cuéllar was a Peruvian politician and diplomat. He served as the fifth Secretary-General of the United Nations, from January 1, 1982 to December 31, 1991, and as Prime Minister of Peru, from November 22, 2000 to July 28, 2001.
Javier was the son of Ricardo Pérez de Cuéllar and Rosa de la Guerra Cevallos. He was married to Marcela Temple Seminario, until her death. He had two children with his former wife Yvette Roberts.
He was a presidential candidate for the 1995 Peruvian presidential election, but lost to Alberto Fujimori.
Javier’s paternal grandfather was Manuel Pérez del Villar (the son of Joaquín Perez and Juana del Villar). Manuel was a Spanish emigrant, from Madrid.
Javier’s paternal grandmother was Agueda de Cuéllar y Hernández de Cisneros (the daughter of Agustín de Cuéllar y Toledo and María Hernández de Cisneros-Figueroa y Marquina).
