Daniel Scheinert is an American filmmaker. He is part of the writing/directing duo known as Daniels, along with Daniel Kwan. They won the Academy Award for Best Director for Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022). They wrote the film, for which they also won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. The two also wrote and directed Swiss Army Man, and a segment of Omniboat: A Fast Boat Fantasia; as well as the music videos “Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls),” “Simple Song,” “Houdini” (2012), “Turn Down for What,” and “Tongues,” and episodes of the show NTSF:SD:SUV::. As a solo filmmaker, Daniel directed and starred in the film The Death of Dick Long.

Daniel’s paternal grandfather was Harry Lee Scheinert (the son of Emil Frederick/Friedrich Scheinert and Retha/Reatha Louise Quick). Harry was born in Birmingham, Alabama. Emil was the son of German parents, Oskar/Oscar Bruno Scheinert, from Prussia, and Maria Dorathea “Mary” Goeller, from Bavaria. Retha was the daughter of John Henry Madison Quick and Melissa Annie Edwards.

Daniel’s paternal grandmother was Donna/Dona Jean Calender/Calendar (the daughter of Kenneth L. Calender/Calendar and Berta/Birta Chandler). Donna was born in Alabama.
